ProSiebenSat.1 secures Free-to-Air Broadcast Rights to British Hit Series “Broadchurch”
Munich, August 7,
2013. ProSiebenSat.1 has acquired the
exclusive free-to-air and pay-TV broadcast licenses and various
video-on-demand rights to the British hit series "Broadchurch."
"Broadchurch" is currently Great Britain's most successful new TV
series. In spring 2013, "Broadchurch" on ITV1 achieved the highest
ratings for a TV series broadcast on a weekday in nearly ten years.
More than ten million viewers watched the finale of the first
eight-part season.
In "Broadchurch," an
eleven-year-old boy is found brutally murdered on the beach in the
coastal town of the same name. As Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller
(Olivia Colman) and Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (David Tennant)
begin their investigations, the idyllic little town begins to come
apart at the seams. The inhabitants maintain their silence - and
gradually all come under suspicion. The further the investigations
progress, the clearer it gets: Broadchurch is hiding a dark
secret.
"Broadchurch" is a production by Shine International and has already been sold in 32 countries. The US broadcaster Fox is planning its own adaptation for the American TV market in 2014/2015. Shine International has already announced a second season for the British market.
